BEACH RESORT AT GOA_THESIS 2009_complete NIRVANA

  •  Goa is India's smallest state in terms of area and the fourth smallest in terms of population. Located on the west coast of India in the region known as the Konkan, it is bounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast. Known as ‘Pearl of Orient’, more famous for tourism, having Portuguese past, is a tropical paradise just 500km from south of Mumbai. The land of Goa is of full natural  resources, abundant rains, temperate climate, long sea cost, churches, liquors, placid navigable rivers, hills, valleys.
  • Renowned for its beaches, places of worship and world heritage architecture, Goa is visited by hundreds of thousands of international and domestic tourists each year. It also has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range, which is classified as a biodiversity hotspot.

           Location of site

  • The site selected is at Morjim beach in north goa, it commands breathtaking views on all sides.
  • The selected triangular plateau is presently accessible from only one side. However it can also be accessed from a proposed major road.
  •  The current access links it to the backwaters which connect to the river chapora. These backwaters can be used for water activities and can be further developed in view of the potential they possess.
  • Also chapora fort standing exactly opposite bank of backwaters of chapora river provides a heritage view to the viewers from the site.
  • Surroundings comprise of vast expanses of cashew nuts and paddy fields.

DESIGN CONCEPT

  •   The site majorly characterizes the geometry of a triangle over which the entire composition of site has been visualized. The peninsular site is covered with Arabian Sea on one of its sides while the other connects it with the backwaters of the chapora river and the third side caters as the entrance to the proposed beach resort.
  • As per the CRZ rules coastal regulation zone a 200 m is a no development zone aligned along the high tide line ie the sea while the side aligned with the backwaters a 100 m is no development zone, and a 6m clear set back is to be provided for the built up construction.
  • Featuring the geometry of the site a triangular approach to the main resort has been visualized which aligns the built up zone in two major orthogonal axes, relating to the administrative and service areas.
  • The topography of the site initially was a slope of 1:18 and now is scaled down to four terraces over which the entire masking and zoning of parking zone, administrative block and cottages have been done.
  • The site has been visually planned in such a way that it provides un-obstructive view from all sides and points. One side of the peninsula covers the residential cottages. Perceiving the geometry of the site the cottages have been aligned onto the eastern side of the site while the western portion comprises of the banquet hall and the gardens.
  •  Conceptualistion of restaurant over the first floor of the western side has been done to provide an exquisite and spectacular view of the sunset. Spreading into infinity visually appearing to merge with the sea is the pool on the western side of the landmass providing an unparallel and unmatched view of the horizon.                                                     view of sea overlooking infinite pool.

My Responsibilities as an ARCHITECT....

My academic program at Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur has prepared me very well for the career of an architect, and my good observation and creative skills has often helped me in producing innovative solutions for real-time cumbersome problems.

Furthermore, as architects I have always found that we have a great responsibility of making human life more comfortable and secure, but at the same time reducing the burden on the earth’s ecosystem by building intelligently and efficiently.
